Judd Trump ousts Neil Robertson to cruise into 2011 UK Championship final at York Barbican Centre
England’s Judd Trump and former world snooker champion, Neil Robertson, had a tussling semi-final encounter at the York Barbican Centre, where the Englishman became the first contender of the 2011 UK Championship title after beating the Aussie, 9-7. Trump
will either play Mark Allen or Ricky Walden in the ultimate clash of the championship.
Young Trump will be appearing in the first final match of UK Championship. It is quite a co-incidence that the 22-year-old is going to show up in the second biggest event of Triple Crown in the same year. Previously, the Bristolian made it to the final contest
of the 2011 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre last May, against the world champion, John Higgins, where he was lost to the Scotsman.
Mr. Haircut 100 is known for his furious but sensible style of playing at the baize and he did show the same play at York during the semi-final game. He brought his ‘naughty snooker’ into play and unsettled former world champion, Robertson, completely.
Although, the Thunder from Down Under kept pace with the Bristolian potter until they were 7-7 but after that, Trump’s back-to-back frame wins brought him to the top and he claimed his first berth in the final of world snooker’s second most prestigious event,
the UK Championship.
Speaking to local media at the conclusion of his match, Trump said, “Neil tried to slow it down and make it awkward for me. At one point (at 7-6) nothing was happening and I was sitting there falling asleep. When he got to 7-7 I thought he could win. We
were both under pressure and maybe we were over-trying and missing a few.”
The World Number Seven cueist added, “I felt under more pressure than I did at the Crucible. This is a big tournament and it would be nice to end the year on a high. I have learned from the World final and I will be patient this time. To win £100,000 would
be perfect in time for Christmas.”
The Ace’s next opponent might be the Pistol, Mark Allen of Northern Ireland or compatriot, Ricky Walden. Both, Allen and Walden will meet in the second semi-final on December 10, at the York Barbican Centre.
