Judd Trump outplays David Gilbert: World Snooker Championship, final qualifying round
David Gilbert lost to Judd Trump by a frame score of 10-4 in the final qualifying round of the 2011 World Snooker Championship held at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, England.
The 29-year-old, Gilbert, started from the first round and beat the likes of David Morris, Barry Pinches and Peter Lines to come up in the final round. However, his hopes to appear in the Crucible for the first time have been ended now by the 21-year-old,
Trump.
The overall score line between the players was 12-132, 58-1, 81-35, 63-34, 85-0, 45-59, 53-61, 83-0, 72-65, 59-6, 0-72, 78-8, 79-0, and 100-0.
In the opening frame, Gilbert fired up a classy break of 88 to have the first blood 1-0. However, he lost his nerves in the following three. The Ace, Trump, played a tactical game to turn the one frame deficit into a two-frame advantage at 3-1 before the
interval.
After the interval, it was again Trump who dominated the first frame firing up breaks of 60 and 25. Gilbert, who was not given any chance in fifth, also bounced back and pocketed the sixth and seventh to level the things by 3-3. Although Trump was given
frame winning chances in both frames but he could not clinch any, breaking down on 45 and 48 respectively.
The eighth frame was a scrappy affair which was taken by Trump. He showed his flawless safety skills to get 40-odd points from his opponent.
In the ninth frame, Gilbert was the first one to be among the balls but he could only manage a break of 43 and when the chance presented itself, Trump slotted a magnificent break of 65 to end the first session with a 6-3 lead.
In the evening session, Trump clinched the first frame with breaks of 13 and 40 to lead by 7-3 whereas Gilbert responded with an outclass break of 72 in the eleventh to reduce the deficit by 7-4.
Trump was not given any chance to pot in the 11th frame and with this confidence, it looked as if Gilbert is going to turn the tables.
However, it turned out to be an exact opposite story. He lost control of his emotions in the 12th, breaking down on 8. Trump punished him by rolling in a superb break of 78 and restored his four-frame lead by 8-4.
He also took the following two frames producing back-to-back mind bogging breaks of 79 and 100 to finish the matters off by 10-4.
Judd Trump has now qualified for the Crucible Theatre and will face Mark Selby in the last 32.
