Judd Trump sets his eyes on world title and number one spot next year - Snooker News
Young Judd Trump has not lost his hopes of clinching the world title and the world number one spot, as he sets his sights on the crown on his return to the Crucible next year.
Trump came three frames short at 15-18 against John Higgins, in the final of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship 2011 on Monday, May 2, at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield.
At one stage, Trump, had a three-frame lead over the Scotsman at 12-9, but after that he started missing simple balls which made the situation difficult for him. He was unexpectedly giving easy chances to Higgins, which were capitalised by his opponent during
the match. He seemed frustrated at that stage and even shouted upon his missed shots.
The 35-year-old Higgins took advantage of Trump’s missed shots and came back strongly in the last session, to beat the Bristolian cueman with a convincing score of 18-15 in the end.
Trump, on the other hand, is looking for a bright future ahead of him. He is waiting to return to the game with new ambitions and expectations, as he is still aiming high for the title and the Number One spot next year.
The Englishman from Bristol, said, “I'm stuck in a bubble here so I don't really know what's going on in the rest of the world. When I get home, I'll be able to tell what's happened,". I'll keep it on the level but I've got a bit of time off so I'll go out
and enjoy myself and then come back and challenge for the title next year and hopefully become world number one.”
World Champion, Higgins, appreciated Trump’s outstanding performance in the match and the Championship as well. He described the youngster as ‘the future’ of the sport, after facing heavy resistance from him in the final match which he won, 18-15.
Higgins added, “It's just an unbelievable feeling to beat Judd like that. I was frightened to death to even play safe as I knew Judd would knock a long pot in and he has been incredible. He's a good-looking boy, young, exciting. The old has-beens like us
will be around for a few more years to ruffle them up but he's definitely the future which is great.”
The North Lanarkshire cueist, Higgins, broke into tears after his victory over Trump in the final of the Betfred.com World Snooker Championship 2011 at the Crucible Theatre. Higgins was emotional when he was questioned about his late father, John Higgins
senior, who supported him throughout his career.
