Judd Trump sets up Ronnie O’Sullivan quarter-final clash: 2012 Welsh Open at Newport Centre
After producing marvellous snooker show at the Newport Centre arena in Newport, Wales, the 2011 UK Championship winner, England’s Judd Trump has breezed into the quarter-final stage of the 2012 Welsh Open where he might face the toughest challenge of the
tournament.
The 22-year-old Trump will be meeting the most naturally gifted snooker talent, the Rocket Ronnie O’Sullivan in his quarter-final clash.
Both potters have shown great determination from the very start of the tournament and displaying their unique snooker genius, they have made their way into the final stages of the event. The pair claimed easy victories in the first two rounds to set up the
quarter-final clash which will definitely be worth watching.
The Essex Exocet, O’Sullivan began his Welsh Open campaign with a remarkable victory in the first round against Hong Kong’s Marco Fu. The Magician triumphed over Fu by the score line of 4-1 to surge into the second round. His opponent in the second round
was Wales’ own Mark Williams. The second round clash seemed a topsy-turvy affair until the end of the second frame but after that the scenario changed into O’Sullivan’s favour and he grabbed the match victory to meet Trump in the quarters.
Trump, on the other hand, faced Fergal O’Brien in his Round 1 contest where he whitewashed the Irishman by 4-0 and cruised into the second round against the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open winner, compatriot Stuart Bingham. Trump-Bingham game was a piece
of cake for the Bristolian and he cleared the table without spending much time at the baize and claimed the victory by 4-1.
Trump has played against O’Sullivan en route his campaign in the 2011 UK Championship. They were up against each other in the second round where Trump beat O’Sullivan 6-5. They met again in the quarter-final of 2012 Masters snooker event and Trump was victorious
once again. The Ace believes that playing O’Sullivan is always a nice experience.
While speaking to the World Snooker, Trump said, “It's always nice to play Ronnie, he won the last tournament and he's playing well, although Mark Williams had chances against him today. I'm confident of beating anyone.”
According to the head-to-head statistics, the pair has played against each other five times before. Trump possesses a 60 percent match winning capability against O’Sullivan while the Essex potter’s match winning ratio is only 40 percent so the odds here
are in favour of Trump.
