Judd Trump has beaten the defending champion, Neil Robertson, by a frame score of 10-8 in the first round of the 2011 Betfred.com World Snooker Championship, which is being held at the
Crucible Theatre, Sheffield, England.
The world number five, Robertson, who vowed to break the ‘Crucible Curse’, crashed out in the last-32. However twenty-year-old, Trump, on the same note has produced an accomplishing performance
to shrug off his experienced opponent. The overall score-line between the players was 91-13, 44-77, 51-56, 79-2, 0-122, 127-0, 7-68, 39-76, 100-0, 64-54, 17-78, 59-58, 90-1, 1-67, 25-65, 72-53 and 0-84.
The Australian, Robertson, dominated the opening frame with a classy break of 72 before losing the next two cagey frames. However, he levelled the scores by 2-2 in the fourth frame with
another carving break of 79.
Fifth and sixth frame were over within a blink of an eye, as both players hit mind-boggling back-to-back century breaks of 122 and 127 respectively.
The players were going neck-to-neck with the score-line of 3-3. Trump pocketed the seventh and eighth without doing anything outstanding to lead his opponent by two frames, 5-3. Robertson,
however, reduced the deficit by 5-4 before the end of the morning session with another superb century break of 100 in the following ninth frame.
In the evening session the twenty-nine-year-old, Robertson, took the first frame with a couple of quick fires, 31 and 33, before Trump fired up a decisive break of 70 in the following
eleventh to restore his one frame lead at 6-5. However he lost the next two frames straight, as the Thunder from the Down Under, Robertson, bounced back into the game with magnificent breaks of 58 and 90 to turn a one frame deficit into a one frame advantage
at 7-6.
This was the first time during the match, when the Australian went ahead and it looked as if now he is going to secure a place in the last-16, but the Bristolian ace, Trump, had different
plans. He showed no reeling effects and took the next two frames straight to leave his opponent one frame down with two to play. He enjoyed breaks of 67 and 26 in the meanwhile.
Robertson clawed back with a break of 53 in the seventeenth but there was no use, as the world number twenty-four, Trump, finished the matter off with a marvellous break of 83 in the eighteenth.
Trump has now secured a place in the last-16 and will face the winner of the match between Marco fu and Martin Gould.
