Judd Trump whitewashes Ding Junhui to claim PTC Event 2 title at South West Gloucester Academy
England’s young snooker star, Judd Trump completely unsettled world number four Ding Junhui from China, in the final encounter of Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 2 on Wednesday, August 10 at the South West Snooker Academy in Gloucester. The young English
potter gave the Chinese a whitewash defeat by the score line of 4-0 to claim the title.
The Englishman played outstandingly in the final stages of the event, as he defeated China’s Yu Delu in the quarters and Fergal O’Brien in his semi-final clash. The final match seemed a tough clash but Trump made it look easy with his exquisite snooker skills.
The 21-year-old fired some scintillating knocks of 81, 68 and 121 to claim his first title win of 2011-12 Snooker Season, and also pocketed £10,000 worth of prize money.
While Speaking to the local media after his victory, Trump said, “I didn't play well up until the last 16 but then I beat Neil Robertson 4-3 on the last black and after that I found some form from somewhere. After that I felt as if it was meant to be, I
went for my shots and sped up a bit. In the semis and final there was a good crowd and that gave me another lift.”
He added, “I didn't practise enough for the start of the season because I wanted to enjoy myself after what happened at the Crucible. It's a long, tough season and everyone wants to be beat me now. So it's nice to win another tournament because it makes
my opponents fear me more.”
After winning his first ever ranking title in 2011 Bank of Beijing China Open, Bristol’s Judd Trump abruptly emerged as a future World Snooker Champion. With his performance in the 2011 World Snooker Championship, he proved his spark to become a champion
when he reached the final encounter against Scotland’s John Higgins.
Many snooker critics hailed him the next Jimmy White and Ronnie O’Sullivan, due to the potting techniques he displayed in World Snooker Championship. However, after the championship he took a bit of rest before he began his new snooker season with PTC Event
1. He couldn’t perform up to the mark in PTC 1 and crashed out of the event in the first round.
His next stop was Bendigo Stadium in Victoria where he participated in the 2011 Australian Goldfields Open. The Bristolian couldn’t perform here as well and crashed out in the early stages, giving critics and fans a reason to doubt his form. However, Trump
has once again silenced his critics and given his fans a reason to smile.
