Judd Trump wins PTC9 title after thrilling performance against Ronnie O’Sullivan at Lotto Arena
Both Englishmen put up a superb show in the final encounter of 2011 Players Tour Championship (PTC) Event 9 at Antwerp in Belgium. Young Judd Trump played brilliantly during the ultimate battle against former three-time Crucible winner, Ronnie O’Sullivan,
to win glory with his second PTC victory. Trump has become the second player after The Rocket, to claim two PTC titles in one season.
Trump had to pull up his socks before the final encounter against Ronnie O’Sullivan, as he was up against one of snooker’s legends. However, he made it quite perfectly in the end even under immense pressure, being on the same table before O’Sullivan. However,
the best-of-seven frames final clash was full of thrill and excitement for spectators present at Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium.
The 22-year-old Trump tumbled down 0-1 in the very first scrappy frame after the Essex Exocet took the frame by 5-67 with a superb 63 knock, to grab an early lead in the match, which put the youngster under pressure. The Bristolian did not lose hope and
girded up his lions to strike back in the second frame with an impressive half-century clearance of 58 and pulled level at 1-1.
After that, The Ace clinched back-to-back frame victories by 69-5 and 79-0 to hit a two-frame lead over Wordsley potter at 3-1, after pocketing two cracking breaks of 69 points in both frames. The 2011 World Snooker Championship finalist was at the brink
of winning his second PTC title when the 35-year-old O’Sullivan showed his class, winning the fifth frame easily by 7-118 after a tremendous century knock of 118.
Sixth scrappy frame was far easier for the ambidextrous potter, as he cleared the baize in one visit by 0-132, potting a marvellous break of 132 points to equalise the scores at 3-3 to drag the match into a decider frame. The final set was dominated by Trump
and with a couple of decent small breaks; he managed to steal the frame by 85-16 to claim the Players Tour Championship Event 9 title by the score line of 4-3.
Trump, also known as Judd Triumph, was very happy after winning his second PTC event. With this victory, Trump has made it to the sixth spot in provisional seeding list, which was revised after PTC9 by World Snooker.
