Jude Felix offers to coach the Indian hockey team
The former captain and experienced trainer, Jude Felix has offered to coach the Indian hockey team in the best interests of the sport in the country.
Following the cruel drama of mudslinging and defamation between the Indian’s hockey team captain Rajpal Singh and chief coach, Jose Brasa, it seems difficult that the contract of the Spaniard will be renewed for another term.
Usually the Indian hockey team’s defeats bring about replacements of captains, charges in the hockey administration and firing of coaches. Same happened this time when the Indian hockey team could not perform well in the 16th Asian Games, the
Indian skipper leveled severe allegations against chief coach of Indian hockey team Jose Brasa and tendered his resignation. Jose Brasa flew back home without renewal of the contract.
Former skipper, Jude Felix, who is disappointed with another defeat of the Indian hockey squad, offered himself as a coach of the team. He stated that it is time that Indian hockey administration handed over the responsibilities of the team to national coaches
for a long term to regain the past glory.
Jude Felix said, “We have been hearing this for a long time. The team undergoes a long preparatory phase for a big event only to return with nothing. We had this opportunity to qualify for the London Olympics at Guangzhou Asian Games but failed.”
Felix the centre-half player started his national hockey career in 1983 and eventually led the squad in 1994 World Cup, where Indian squad was most disciplined among the all the teams.
In 1995, Jude Felix joined Singapore Recreation Club (SRC) as a player coach and in-charge of the youth development, which acquired Johore Bahru league in his command.
Jude Felix was of the view that he had been offering the government to take his services as a coach for longtime but to no avail. He reiterated his offer saying that he is willing to train the team if Hockey India (HI) and Sports Authority of India (SAI)
appoint him as a chief coach of the team for four years.
Jude Felix vowed that he along with Harendra Singh could form a good team to revive the past glory of the game. The future of the Indian hockey team seems uncertain as many national coaches given chances but they could not deliver results. Now, it is up
to the Hockey India and Sports Authority of India as to whom they chose for training the hockey team.
