  1. Yes, giving kids stupid names is just going to make their life h**l at school - paramount to child cruelty

  2. Yes its right and fair. That child deserves more in life.

  3. Yes I do.  It says right in the news report that the girl was so embarrassed by her name that she wouldn't even tell her closest friends what it was...they were asked by her to call her K.

  4. I think there was more to it than just the name. I had a run of the mill name (in fact it is one of the most popular from the year I was born) and I never liked it.

Hubby and I named our kids fairly unusual names and hopefully, when they are adults, they will like not being just another Bob and Ann.

  5. since the parents are not capable of giving their child a"normal" name then yes the courts should have the right to step in and guarantee the child will have a name that will not encourage ridicule throughout their childhood. If people can be monitored on what they can have on a personalized licence plate to ensure it isn't offencive shouldn't children be given the same protection? Do you ever notice that these attention seeking parents have never gone to court to change their own name into one of the bizarre choices they want to give their children.

  6. While I don't believe that parents should give their child a "stupid" name, I dont believe that children should become a ward of the court for it.  Are they going to start removing celebrities children because they have named them something stupid like Apple or Sunday?

  7. Remember, she was too embarrassed to even tell her friends her real name. The court was just doing what she could not do for herself.  Do you want your name to be Talula Does the Hula??  What kind of parent would hurt their child like that?? Nothing but ridicule can come of it.  It's not like they named her "Apple" (LOL)  Obviously, they were unfit to name her. They're lucky the court didn't just rip her out of that home entirely.

New Zealanders have been trying their best lately to come up with the strangest names they can think of.  Some parents are denied outright, when they try to put it on the birth certificate. How "Talula Does the Hula" slipped through the cracks is a real mystery.

  8. Yes....some people just arent meant to be parents...why would you ever name your precious baby a name that will bring them ridicule and embarresment their whole life???

Registration officials blocked some names, including Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Keenan Got Lucy and s*x Fruit, he said. But others were allowed, including Number 16 Bus Shelter "and tragically, Violence,"  (taken from yahoo home page)

  9. I think it's right.... maybe it will catch on here too. I know some kids with very strange names.

  10. Yes, if the parents are so stupid as to think giving their child a bizarre name won't harm the child down the road, a judge should condemn the practice.  Children can be horrible at times and giving the mean kids fodder against others, such as a bizarre name, can cause mental and emotional damage.

  11. There were much worse names mentioned like some that had dates or places where the baby was conceived. Things like that, I think are unbelievable and should be changed. Talulah Does the Hula from Hawaii is just funny and silly. When the child is of age, they should be able to change a name like that, but not until then. CNN did a report and several people said they knew ppl with strange names, even one was named Easter Bunny. The truth is kids get embarrased about their names. I know I did, too, but when you get older you see the uniqueness and appreciate it more.

  12. No. Tatula does the Hula is a very nice name. He should be hanged for high treason.

  13. Yes, allowing some parent to name a child in such a fashion is not funny.  That's tantamount to child abuse, purposely engineering a situation where they will be ridiculed.

  14. The little girl your referring to said she suffered humiliation over her name. So, yes- it is right.

Jason lee named his son Pilot Inspektor and i think that's awful.

Mine have very *unique* names. but they are actual names nonetheless. Not made up.

  15. Absolutely! People are getting OUT OF HAND naming their children. They are not play things... they are human beings and will have to endure the normal ribbing about whatever out of style aspect they may have but why ensure that your child will be ostracized and ridiculed?

  16. HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA

  17. Yes, it is the rite of parents to name a child. But, that name is just mean. Poor kid...........

  18. I am kinda stuck in the middle of this decision. Some odd names I dont think are such a horrible idea, but there are some, such as this that will get her teased for a very long time and I dont like that idea. I think the parents are not thinking of the best future for their cildren by naming the kids truely outlandish names, I cant see a good reason they would do that to someone they love and care about.

I understand wanting a different name for your child, but some are plain ridiculous.

I guess I lean more to the side of thinking parent should be able to name their children whatever they want, It isnt as if it is hurting anything...except the teasing of the child.

I would hope no one I know would name their children such truely out there names like that, but I dont think its up to a judge to say you cant do it.

  19. I think the Judge is in the right, because the child shouldn't have to go thru life with that ridiculous name!
