As an organisation set up during WW2 it appears to have run its time. The world was very different then, and many modern day countries were either non-existent or colonies. SInce then the world has been through the cold war, many countries have formed alliances and trading blocks. The recent Iraq war pushed the UN to the back of the stage.

The recent, and worrying rebirth of a number of European states as an autonomous political entity, already embarking upon partition of a non-member state with no approval by the UN seems to be another nail in this fragmenting coffin.

A more representative organisation that denies 'privileged' status to the WW2 survivors and nuclear armed nations, and is located in a 'non-allied territory' might form a better basis for international debate, and posturing.

absolutedly!  the UN is full of corruptions and currently has no power other than to issue ultimatum that do not carry any force!  furthermore it should be send packing out of the united states.  there is no need for tax payers to support and organization that is full of corruption lining of the pockets of corrupt members and management of the organization.

I think the idea is great, but it accepted too many corrupt countries, which of course vote the opposite way they should.  That is why China and Russia back Iran, Russia to sell them nuclear material and China to get their oil.  U.N. needs to have a constitution of its own, like America's, but even basic.  1.  Freedom of speech (bye bye China Russia) 2.  No torture (America would change their ways)  3.  Non rigged elections  etc.

Time and time again they have shown their impotence in dealing with any significant world event.  My extended family and I can get as much done as they do sitting around the dinner table.
