Judi Partridge’s Belloma is ready to take on the Cal Breeders’ Champ Fillies field
The 2-year-old Judi Partridge owned filly, Belloma, is all ready to take her next step in the $100,000 Cal Breeders’ Champ Fillies at Santa Anita Park on its opening meet day, 26 December, 2011, at about seven furlongs on dirt. The race is exclusive for 2-year-old fillies.
Trainer Dan Hendricks was expecting Belloma to do something special in her debut race, and she did not disappoint her trainer as she went through and through to land her maiden special weight race in emphatic style at first asking.
The California bred daughter of Yankee Gentleman, out of mare Green Flash by Wild Again, Belloma, assumed the lead straight after breaking from the gate under jockey Martin Garcia.
She broke superbly and in the same motion jumped into the lead as she covered the six and a half furlong distance in 1 minute and 17.10 seconds, downing Speedway Monkey in second and Puff Pastry in third position on 26 November, 2011, at Hollywood Park’s cushion track.
“She was professional and showed a good way of going from the start,” said Hendricks, who was expecting the daughter of Yankee Gentleman to break her maiden in her first attempt. “She worked nicely out of the gate before her first race and ran the same way. She worked so well here I don’t foresee any problem going from synthetic to dirt.”
Dan Hendricks was asked if 20 horses for one meet is a good number for him, and he replied “You always want more.”
Dan Hendricks is looking forward to the Santa Anita meet, and has 20 horses ready for it. Among those is his juvenile runner, Belloma, who will be tested at seven furlongs on 26 December.
Ahead of the Cal Breeders’ Champ Fillies, Belloma, over Santa Anita Park’s fast main track, worked five furlongs in 1 minute and 1 second on 21 December, 2011.
The juvenile filly will be up against five other 2-year-old fillies. Tangerine Tickle, the daughter of Our New Recruit, Almost a Lady, Awesome Gambler’s filly, Willa B Awesome, Broadway Moon’s filly, Warren’s Amber, and Tribal Rule’s filly, Ismene, will fill the Cal Breeders’ Champ Fillies lineup.
