Judit Ignacio wins Women’s 100m butterfly – 2011 Scottish Gas National Swimming Open Championships
Judit Ignacio of Spain won the gold medal of the Women’s 100m butterfly on the initial day of the 2011 Scottish Gas National Swimming Open Championships.
The Scottish Gas Championships is an important swimming meet, as the participants are provided with a chance to gear up before the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
The 16-year-old Ignacio pocketed the title of the event by touching the wall in a time of 1 minute and 00.70 seconds. The new national champion, Ignacio, was only 0.01 seconds away from her following swimmer, Jessica Dickons of Edinburgh University, who
posted a second fastest time of 1 minute and 00.71 seconds for the silver medal. In the same manner, Dickons remained only 0.18 seconds away from her closest competitor, Jessica Sylvester of Nova Venturion, who followed her on the podium for the bronze medal,
by clocking in a time of 1 minute and 00.89 seconds.
Ignacio’s beautiful swim was only 0.99 seconds away from smashing the senior national record of 59.71 seconds, which was made by Louise Pate in 2009. In addition, her effort was comfortably under the junior mark of 1 minute and 01.67 seconds, owned by Laura
Dawson in 2009. After the meet, Ignacio expressed happiness over her tremendous win in the event.
Rachel Sharples of East Lothian was the fourth fastest swimmer to touch the finishing wall, as she posted a time of 1 minute and 04.07 seconds. She was followed by Corrie Scott of South Lanark, who was only 0.09 seconds behind her and submitted a time of
1 minute and 04.16 seconds.
Moments later, Lorna Cummins of Sundays Well demonstrated her notable efforts and touched the wall in a sixth fastest time of 1 minute and 04.66 seconds. She was followed by Nicole Wilson and Rachel Martin, who appeared on the finishing wall as the seventh
and eight fastest swimmers, by producing a time of 1:05.22 and 1:05.57 minutes, respectively.
The championships will continue for three more days and conclude on July 3, after the completion of all scheduled swimming events.
