Judith Arndt is leading the stage 2 classifications at the Ladies Tour of Qatar 2012
German cyclist Judith Arndt finished second during the stage 2 of the race and her performance was good enough to earn her the top spot at the overall classifications.
Judith fell short of the stage victory as Trixi Worrack sailed through the finish-line to claim her first victory of the season.
She finished the race in the quickest time of 3 minutes, 5 seconds and 37 seconds to bag an important stage win for her team.
Adriana Visser, Kirsten Wild and Shelley Olds secured the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Arndt helped the World Tour debutant Team GreenEdge with a significant overall lead during the second stage.
She briefed that the Australian team played like a unit during the 114.5 kilometre chase to Madinat Al Shamal.
Judith expects the same performance from her side during the final day of the race.
She said, “The final didn’t go our way yesterday. Today we put a lot of work into the race. It took a lot in the end to get rid of Kirsten Wild. She’s very dangerous because she’s the top sprinter here. In the end, it worked out”.
Arndt also won the second sprint of the race, while Kirsten Wild and Trixi Worrack succeeded at the first and the third sprints of the event.
Team GreenEdge Sports Director, Dave Mc Partland was overwhelmed with his team’s performance and is looking ahead for an overall win at the race.
He quoted, “There were different groups up the road throughout the race. We had Judith in the front for both intermediate sprints, and Loes Gunnewijk was up there for awhile, too. When Gunnewijk came back, Judith went up the road with the final move”.
Italian cyclist Valentina Scandolara was the best young rider of the day, while Cherise Taylor of South Africa and Katie Colclough of Great Britain claimed the second and third positions.
Judith has a significant lead of 2 seconds over the second stage winner, Trixi Worrack, while the stage 1 winner, Kirsten Wild, is 2 minutes and 16 seconds behind at the third position.
Kirsten Wild is also leading the stage 2 points classifications with a total number of 31 points to her credit.
Judith Arndt is 3 points behind at the second position, while Trixi Worrack, Elen Van Dijk and Chloe Hosking occupied the third, fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
All eyes are on the 92.5 kilometre stage 3 of the race, scheduled at the Cultural Village on Friday, 3rd of February.
