Judith Arndt of Team GreenEdge-AIS won the overall classifications at the Ladies Tour of Qatar 2012
Judith Arndt of Team GreenEdge-AIS won the final general classifications of the Ladies Tour of Qatar. She started the final stage with a lead of 2 seconds over Trixi Worrack and did well to maintain her overall dominance during the final day.
The German finished fourth at the final stage of the race and kept a close eye on her main challenger, Trixi Worrack, to keep her down at the ninth spot.
Arndt climbed the top podium position with a lead of 6 seconds over the second place finisher, Trixi Worrack.
GreenEdge-AIS Sports Director, Rod McGee was delighted with the victory, "With the team just starting out, this kind of success is terrific. They rode really well over the three days. They showed us they were in great condition and really motivated with
their wins in January”.
He continued, "The girls were down to their slowest speed the whole race at the start. They were going under 20 kilometres per hour. Eventually, it changed to crosswinds, and when the field split all our girls made the front group".
Kirsten Wild won the third stage of the race to bag her second stage victory at the Tour. She overcame her Dutch compatriots and finished the stage in the quickest time of 2:38:36.
Elen Van Dijk and Adriana Visser secured the second and the third positions during the final day of racing.
Trixi finished 9th and managed the second overall position at the race, with Kirsten Wild, Elen Van Dijk and Chloe Hosking grabbing the third, fourth and fifth overall positions, respectively.
American rider, Kendall Ryan, won the first sprint of the event while Judith Arndt and Kirsten Wild dominated the second and the third sprints.
Chloe Hosking, Elena Cecchini and Marta Tagliaferro were the top three young riders of the day.
Kirsten Wild won the points classification with a total number of 50 points in her back pocket, while Judith Arndt, Trixi Worrack, Elen Van Dijk and Chloe Hosking achieved the next four positions.
Team GreenEdge-AIS claimed the second overall position in the Teams classification with Team Specialized Lululemon at the first spot. Team Mcipollini Giambenini achieved the third position after the final team’s classification.
