Judith Meulendijks ousts Salakjit Ponsana in Women’s Singles qualifying round at 2012 Swiss Open
Judith Meulendijks powered her way into the next stage of Women’s Singles qualifying round after beating Thailand’s Salakjit Ponsana in her first clash at 2012 Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in Switzerland, on Tuesday, March 13.
The in-form Judith played to her maximum potential in her opening contest against her Thai opponent and managed to win the match in straight game without facing any considerable trouble.
On the other hand, Salakjit tried to play competitive badminton but could not dominate the pace of rallies and lost the contest without winning any game.
In the opening set, both ladies showed their aggression in the first few rallies and remained equal until 2-2. At this initial stage, Judith started to play positive badminton and built an early lead.
She was quite focused in the game and remained successful in setting up a remarkable gap of 11-5 on the score board.
Salakjit could not produce finishing shots as she was lacking the power to create pressure on her Dutch opponent and remained far behind.
After the one-minute interval, Salakjit accelerated her speed by taking the bird early and remained successful in reducing the gap as she reached at 10-12.
However, the Dutch started to play aggressive badminton and stretched her lead. She was focused in the game and bagged the set with a striking margin of 21-14.
In the second game, Salakjit played well this time as she matched the speed of her Dutch opponent in opening rallies and remained close on the score board.
On the other hand, Judith also could not manage a comfortable lead in the first half as her Thai rival played positive and fast game. Until the one-minute break, both ladies were close on the score board.
After the one-minute interval, this thrilling fight continued in the similar fashion and both shuttlers progressed closely without taking lead.
The score was 16-16 when Judith controlled the pace of rallies and managed to score the ending points. She clinched the second game with a tight 21-19 score on the board.
Judith emerged as the winner of this qualifying-round contest with a remarkable margin of 21-14 and 21-19.
