  1. Judo becasue Karate is just to well know the moves are easy to stop

  2. Maybe you and your brother could cross train each other if you learned Judo.  They're both fun - maybe you can do a workout with each dojo before you decide which way you want to go.

  3. How about kick boxing judo and wrestling

  4. Neither . Learn Kung Fu San Soo if you really want to learn to defend youself .  Look it up .

  5. karate has a more spiritual aspect  its approach but judo is a lil more violent cuz the training is less 4givin but judo gets u stronger quicker so i'd say judo

  6. Hi.

It really depends on your personal preference and what you want to take the style for.

Karate is primarily a stand up martial art that uses kicking and punching.  Some styles will also use elbows, knees, pressure points, throws, locks, pain submissions and even some grappling.  Karate can be good for sport and for self defense.

Judo is exclusively a grappling style that uses no striking.  It can be self defense applicable but is designed as and used primarily as a sport.

Without knowing what kind of Karate you are talking about it's hard to say for sure but if you are looking for self defense then Karate would likely be the better option.  If you want to go to competitions and care primarily about the sport aspect then both will probably work.

Like I said, it's personal preference.  What do you want to do.  Since Judo looks like more fun you might want to go with that but if Judo doesn't fit with what you want to get out of martial arts then perhaps Karate.

Having a brother in Karate should help you to make your decision, ask him (and/or his instructor) about it and watch some of his classes to see if it's what you want to do.  Most schools will even offer a trial period where you can take a class or two for free to see if you like it, the Judo place may even do this, I suggest you take full advantage if they do.  Kind of like test driving a car before you buy it, always a good idea.

Just make sure that whatever you choose you want to do it.  If you feel obligated or if there's some other reason why you choose one over the other then it probably won't last and you won't get as much out of it as you could.  In other words you may never reach your full potential if you're simply not into it...

I personally would choose Karate but both are good styles and certainly worth training in.

I hope this helps and good luck deciding :)

  7. I did judo -- I think it depends on your body type. If you like wrestling, you'll like judo. If you are more of a boxer type, then karate.

  8. Judo if taking people to the ground. Like takedowns and stuff. Karate if fighrting people on your feet. With all the flippy jump kicks. trust me karate is way more fun. =)

  9. Be yourself.  Choose what fits you best.    Read up on both judo and karate, try out a couple classes of each and then decide.  Maybe you want to be different from your brother, maybe you want to be more like him.

Karate teaches more striking and kata.  Judo is about throwing and grappling, they do more joint locks and more choking.  Judo has striking and kata but they are less common. Karate has choking, joint locks, and throws but they are less common.

Judo comes from the Japanese jujutsu and samurai sword arts.  Judo has a long history as an olympic sport (1964) and is practiced all over the world.  It has been called the most common martial art in the world.  At one time Judo's popularity was second only to soccer in the UK and Europe.

Karate was the practice the Okinawan people used in fighting the invading Japanese samurai.  Samurai had weapons, primarily the sword, the peasents had hands and feet.  They developed the philosophy of one strike one kill.

Both are rich in tradition and skills,  you will be well served either way.

  10. judo....have your brother teach you karate, and you can share judo with him, and in the end, you both end up knowing judo and karate. win win situation!

  11. Try out each of the classes and see what you enjoy most and which instructor is the best. They are both worthy arts, so its down to whatever suits you. And don't worry about going on your own, you'll soon make friends with tonnes of other students who can help you out.
