Judo questions?

does judo teach how to mount?

does jud teach how to shoot (like a wrestler) and sprawl?

does it teach guard?

does it teach triangle and other ground work?

bjj is probably more effience in MMA, but I was wondering which is better in your opinion

  1. You can learn all that and more in Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. Its obviously better in MMA, the only exception being Karo Parisian who has spectacular throws but just sits on you after he takes you to the ground.


  2. It depends on the club. Some focus more on groundwork than others.

    The ones that don't focus much on ground work... will not teach you much of that. The ones that do will teach you sweeps (reversals), escapes, guard passes, pins (including mount), chokes (including triangles), and armlocks.

    A lot of wrestlers cross train in Judo during the off season, so you could probably find somebody to show you shots. Judo has a double-leg takedown and firemans carry, though.

    Try a class and see what you think.

    BJJ is more popular in MMA and has more developed groundwork, but often lacks takedowns. Both styles, as they are gi-reliant, require adaptation regardless.
