Judy the Beauty ready to take down Gallant Bloom’s field at Belmont Park
Judy the Beauty seems just about ready to embark on a great career that is set to have its seeds sown in the 3-year-old filly’s sophomore season, as the Wesley Ward trained filly looks to post her first victory of the season in the Grade 2, $200,000 Gallant
Bloom Stakes at Belmont Park.
Wesley Ward, who also owns the Ghostzapper filly is rightly excited about the six and one-half furlong sprint on 22 September, because Judy the Beauty was last time second best to Emma’s Encore in the Grade 1 Prioress Stakes at Saratoga back in August.
Though, finishing second, Judy the Beauty ran her heart out over the Saratoga stretch, where she felt right at home trying to pull one on Emma’s Encore, but had the stretch been half-furlong longer, Judy the Beauty would’ve downed the leader.
The Prioress first and second can go at it again, as they are among the 10 fillies and mares lined up to make their mark in the Gallant Bloom Stakes.
Out of Holy Bull mare Holy Blitz, Judy the Beauty will post her first victory of the 2012 season if she goes on to bag the Gallant Bloom, and on top of that she will be eligible to run in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint on 2 November, 2012, at Santa
Anita – Gallant Bloom being the Win and You’re In Breeders’ Cup race.
Never finished worse than second in six career starts, Judy the Beauty has dwelled in sprints entirely, and her sole owner come trainer isn’t planning to change the pattern anytime soon.
“She’s a sprinter because of me,” Ward said. “Her breeding suggests she wants to go further, and the way she trains, she looks like she wants to go further, and I plan to do that next year.”
Bred in Kentucky by Adena Springs, Judy the Beauty turned in a five furlong move in 1 minute and .01 seconds in company with Richard Dutrow Jr.’s, Jeter.
Judy the Beauty turned in her career-best workout time. “I’m going into this race very, very excited,” Ward said. “You can’t have a horse going into a race any better than she’s coming into this race.”
