I have a question about the Juilliard school of music. Is is solely a music school, or does it also support regular classes like english, or mathematics?

  1. It is an arts school, first and foremost, and your music classes(theory, performance, history, music lit, world music, etc) will be the brunt of your education. However, I think there's a law of some sort that requires them to make you take the english, math, and science type of classes in order to give you a bachelor's degree.

  2. A Bachelor of Music degree (anywhere in the US) has specific requirements on ensemble participation, private studies, theory, ear training, world music, etc.

Juilliard has liberal arts classes (and they'll be required), but since it's a conservatory setting you'll have MUCH more music than liberal arts.

  3. it does have the basic regular classes, but their speciality is instrumental music, theatre, and dance.

  4. I can tell you thing I know about the school, you can not learn to play an instrument there, you have to be darn good at it and they will train you to be better. Read the below especially the second line from the bottom.

It is informally identified as simply Juilliard, and trains in dance, drama, and music. Now at Lincoln Center, the school instructs about 800 undergraduates and graduate students. It is rated by the U.S. News & World Report as the institution of higher education having the lowest acceptance rate (7%) in the United States, followed by Curtis Institute of Music, Yale University and Harvard University.[1]
