Jukebox Jury and four other runners ready to take down Fame and Glory in the Irish Field St Leger
Trainer Mark Johnston is preparing his 5-year-old grey horse, Jukebox Jury, to replicate the performance Below Zero gave at Leopardstown, as he marks a return to Irish soil to bid for Grade 1 Classic glory in the Irish Field St Leger on 11 September, 2011,
at the Curragh.
The British based trainer, Mark Johnston went to Ireland on 3 September, 2011, with hopes of winning the September Handicap also known as Premier Handicap, over a distance of seven furlongs.
The 4-year-old bay gelding obliged by nailing his rivals, 17 in total, won the race by 1 ¼ lengths over Hujaylea.
Johnston would be hoping for a similar sort of performance by Jukebox Jury, especially when he is coming off a win in the Group 2 Darley Prix Kergorlay for 3-year-olds and above, over a distance of 1 mile and 7 furlongs on a ground labelled good.
The Irish Field St Leger at Curragh has reeled in six runners already, with the likes of Ascot Gold Cup's hero, Fame and Glory.
It goes without saying that the 5-year-old Aidan O’Brien trained horse will be the main target in the Curragh showpiece.
Jukebox Jury has been among the winners this season, kicking off 2011 with an emphatic victory in a listed race, the Smartphone Fred Archer Stakes at Newmarket on 25 June, 2011.
Under jockey Neil Callan, the pair had to contend over a distance of 1 mile and 4 furlongs with seven other rivals.
They made good ground after keeping off pace and with a furlong to go, Neil Callan, edged his ride to the left side of the track and stayed on well to win the race by ¾ of a length.
Fame and Glory, on the other hand, has had 3 wins out of 4 starts this season, and his inclusion in the Irish Field St Leger sends ominous signals to other runners participating.
Fame and Glory’s last race was at the Curragh where he finished ¼ of a length behind the winner, Fictional Account, and apart from that solitary loss, he has a 100% record in the year 2011.
