Question:

Jukebox installation error?

I have used jukebox for years, and abt 2 months ago I logged and and was forced to upgrade (2 options appear- 'update' or 'exit') So of course i press update. It begins to install and almost at the end the error pops up "yahoo music jukebox has experienced a problem and needs to close" - and it does. I have not been able to get it working since then.

I got a new laptop just last week and tried a clean install on this machine- exact same outcome!!! I have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous times with the same effect.

After trying again today for the 10th time with freshly downloaded version from yahoo, and getting the same result- I tried an experiement. I installed an old version of jukebox and what do you know- it installed, it opened, and I began using it. BUT within 2 minutes, I again got the "update or exit" option- and again, it fails. yahoo's only help has been to say 'uninstall and reinstall' -but that does not work. this seems to be a problem with the update software?

  1. I have the same exact problem. The old version works for a short period and the newly downloaded version tells me I must update. WTF?

  2. Dude I understand what you are saying but it don't make any sense.  YMJ is 2.2.2.056.  If you install what I think is the latest level, why would you get a request to update? I don't.  The latest level of YMJ would come from downloads.yahoo.com or:

    http://music.yahoo.com/jukebox/

Something stinks here Dude and it aint the cheese.

  3. I think what Irwin is trying to say (in a non diplomatic way) is why did the "fresh" install fail on your new laptop.  The only possible answer I can figure out is that you were not installing the latest version of YMJ.  If you had installed the latest version, you would not have been prompted for the update. BTW you should always install from either downloads.yahoo.com or:

    http://music.yahoo.com/jukebox/

However, now you have the problem that when the update fails, the system registry thinks that the latest version of YMJ has been installed.  Even if you are able to uninstall YMJ from add or remove programs, you can not install YMJ 2.2.2.056 because the installer thinks that 2.2.2.056 is on your system.  This type of problem requires manual cleanup of the YMJ folders and removal of keys in the system registry.  I have done this type of thing for over 2 years and it's easy for me, but I don't recommend it for the novice.  You may be able to get around this problem if you use System Restore and pick a restore point prior to letting YMJ do the update.  So do the System Restore and then remove YMJ from add or remove programs.  Then download YMJ from either of the above sites and you should be ok (you should not receive a prompt to upgrade).  Good luck.
