Jules Bianchi defeats Sergio Perez at Ferrari’s test drive in Fiorano – Formula 1 news
Two young drivers, Jules Bianchi from GP2 and Sergio Perez from Formula 1 team Sauber, faced off against each other at Fiorano and it seems that Bianchi had more pace their compared to the young Mexican driver.
The head of Ferrari’s Academy, Luca Baldisserri praised the two drivers and claimed that both of them had to go through different respective programs.
“We followed two different programmes with Perez and Bianchi. Sergio impressed, despite this being his first time at the wheel of a Ferrari. He proved to be aggressive and quick right from the start and was able to adapt to the car in a very short space
of time,” he said.
Other than that, Baldisserri admitted that Perez is pretty mature for his age and the level of understanding he had with the car was quite good.
While talking about Bianchi, the Academy’s head stated that he was given a very different sort of a test and he did a great job in it.
Bianchi himself was quite pleased with his performance and found this whole activity quite interesting.
“We did a lot of laps and once again it was a very useful experience for me. These laps all count a lot towards the future I'd like to have in Formula 1,” said Bianchi.
This run was called by many as an audition for a future seat at Ferrari. According to the team, Felipe Massa is not going to leave the team in 2012 but since his contract expires in 2013, he would have to be replaced and the team is looking for some new
talent for that race drive.
The test was held through simulators for two days for the two drivers after which they used Ferrari’s 2009 Formula 1 car, F60 for this audition to battle it off against each other. According to lap times, Bianchi was over 4 tenths of a second faster than
Perez.
Despite the fact that Massa is being criticised highly since his return, he is once again going to drive for the team in 2012 as well which is clearly going to be his last chance with Ferrari.
