Jules Bianchi tops the timesheets on first day at Magny-Cours – Formula 1 news
Jules Bianchi, who drove Ferrari, has topped the timesheets on the first day of the Young Driver Test held at Magny-Cours in France.
Bianchi set the fastest time of 1 minute and 18.070 seconds and covered 87 laps behind the wheel of F2012. Although, he faced an electrical issue during his run due to which he ended quite early. Nonetheless, he managed to gather the necessary information
regarding the update package of his car which will help in making the further advancement.
The French driver said that they tested aerodynamics parts which are not included in the major upgrades. Nevertheless, he said that he had a great learning opportunity to drive this year’s car of the Scarlet team which will surely help him in developing
himself as a race driver.
In addition, he admired the track features and said that he really like to drive on it while he said that they had a productive opening day overall.
"Today we tried various aerodynamic components which are not big evolutions for the car, but things already tried on Fridays at the races and brought here to confirm some of the data," Bianchi said. "It's first time I've driven this year's car and it was
good opportunity for me to get some experience of it. I immediately felt comfortable, but right near the end of session when I wanted to go for a time, we had small electrical problem. Apart from that, it was completely positive day: I really like driving
this track and it's characteristics are particularly well suited to testing."
Furthermore, he was followed by Luiz Razia who made his debut with Force India. He completed 64 laps and performed quite convincingly. Besides, his best laptime was 1 minute and 18.535 seconds.
Additionally, Sam Bird who drove Mercedes came third in the charts with his best time of 1 minute and 19.094 seconds. The British driver was contended with his performance on the first day.
Though, he came last in the timesheets, however, he managed to collect some essential data regarding the new exhaust layout and the double-DRS device of W03 which the Brackley based team intended to test.
