Jules Marie edges past Yann Marti in opening round qualifier – IPP Open 2011 CH
Jules Marie, French 20-year-old, escaped his first round challenger of the IPP Open 2011 qualifiers, Tali, Helsinki, as he played 23-year-old Swiss, Yann Marti, beating him down 7-5, 5-7, 6-3, in a tough three set match, finishing off in an hour and 59 minutes hard indoor court match on Saturday, 19th of November.
Commencing with the fixture, Swiss started off with the first game of the match, serving out and rolling down the scoreboard, 1-0. Following Marti, Marie came up with his first win of the fixture levelling up the scores, 1-1. Carrying on the 23-year-old mustered away his second service game, game three, and led the scoreboard, 2-1.
Marti dominated the fixture as he broke the 20-year-old Frenchman and led the board, 3-1. Taking advantage of the breakpoint win, Marti slammed another winner to extend his lead to 4-1. Frenchman struck back as he served out game six, 4-2, and broke the higher ranked Swiss in game seven, cutting down the lead to 4-3.
Marie won an equalizer, game eight, 4-4 and once again came back up. Winning a game each the two levelled up at 5-5 with the Frenchman serving next for game eleven. The match twisted when Marie served out his sixth service game, game eleven, and broke his 23-year-old challenger in game twelve to finish off the set winning 7-5.
Leading the match, 1-0, Frenchman carried along with serving first for set two turning down the board, 1-0. Rallying down the first four games, both won games of respective serves and levelled up at 2-2. Unable to break each other, the two rivals held their serves to level up again at 3-3, 4-4 and then on 5-5.
Hoping to finish up the fixture easy and early, Marti served for game eleven and got a shocker. Swiss broke his higher ranked rival on his serve, game eleven, and blistered away with the twelfth game, 7-5, to win the set and level up the scores.
With the decider on its way, the lower ranked Frenchman took his side to serve the first game of the third set. Serving out the opener, 1-0, Marie banged another winner, breaking the higher ranked 23-year-old to lead the board with two straight wins.
Commanding the set, the 20-year-old continued with his second service game, game three, winning and bagged his third consecutive win of the set, 3-0. Marti finally won his first game, game four, to cut the lead to 3-1, however, was unable to break back at any point of the set and eventually lost the set, 6-3.
Through to the second round of the IPP Open 2011, Finland, Marie would play his second round challenger Ivan Nedelko for the final qualifier round of the ATP Challenger Tour event.
