Julia Glushko blue rains on Jana Cepelova in 2nd round – Slovak Open 2011
Seventh seeded Israeli Julia Glushko sent Slovakian Jana Cepelova to the lockers in the second round of the Slovak Open 2011.
On Thursday the 17th of November, the two competitors faced off against each other on indoor hard courts of the Národné Tenisové Centrum in Bratislava, Slovakia. After one hour and twenty eight minutes the seventh seeded Israeli got rid of the unseeded Slovak in straight sets of 6-0, 7-6(4).
The first set of the match was clearly a lopsided victory for the seventh seeded Israeli and she had targeted eighty two percent of her first serves on target which assisted her in achieving a walloping 71 percent of her total service points in the opening set.
In addition, her defence was as strong as an ox and she did not allow a single breakpoint chance to her adversary instead she capitalized on three out of eight breakpoints won. With a strong return, she accomplished a fifty nine percent of her total return points won and bagged almost twice as many points as her opponent’s in the opening set.
Initiating the first round of the match was Cepelova and she started off with a pathetic start as she was unable to bag a single service game in the entire set. Moreover, she did not target her first serves properly and was only able to a forty three percent of her first service points.
Although she saved a sixty three percent of her breakpoints, she was unable to bag any breakpoints. With a pathetic return she was only able to clog twenty nine percent of her total return points and eventually lost the opening set with only nineteen out of fifty one points in the initial round.
However, after taking a beating in the first set, Cepelova made an excellent return and tried her best to bag the set but it was ultimately pushed in to a tiebreaker.
Commencing the second set of the match was again Cepelova and this time she was able to hold her service game and by capitalizing on two breakpoints managed to reel four consecutive games to take a lead of four games to love. At the end of the fifth game, she further extended her lead to five games!
However, she was unable to close the game and eventually the seventh seed made a terrific comeback by reeling straight five games to ultimately tie the score at five games each. As the two traded in breaks in the last two games, the set was shoved into a tiebreaker.
The head-to-head leg between the two lost its vapour and the last time the score tied was at four points each. From there onwards, the seventh seeded Israeli rushed towards the finish line and clinched the tiebreaker at 7-4.
Glushko was able to save a spot in the quarterfinal where she will be facing top seeded Ukrainian Lesia Tsurenko.
