Julia Glushko breezes past Valeria Solovieva into second round – OrtoLaakarit Open 2011
Fourth seeded Israeli Julia Glushko trashed Russian Valeria Solovieva in straight sets at the OrtoLaakarit Open 2011, an ITF event taking place on the hard courts in Helsinki, Finland. She registered a 6-4, 6-4 success over the
19-year-old Russian to secure a second round spot on Wednesday.
World number 186 Glushko outmuscled the Russian, ranked 101 spots below her in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, on their first encounter. After earning success from this one hour and forty-four minutes long marathon, she
booked a round of sixteen spot.
21-year-old Israeli stormed into the opening set and got the desiderated break in the opening game. She exchanged breaks in the 4-5th and the 8-9th game and eventually sealed the opener with a 6-4 win.
Glushko clobbered a better first serve share of 69 percent as compared to the Russian’s 63 percent and registered an impressive 59 percent win on it. Furthermore, she saved half of the four breakpoints faced and converted three
out of four breakpoint chances to her advantage.
The high flying Israeli youngster went berserk in the final set as she went on a four games killing spree through her exquisite and blistering forehands from her box of tricks. Regardless of losing the next three games, Glushko
held remaining serves and clinched the set with a 6-4 victory.
She again manifested a much better first serve share of 63 percent as compared to Solovieva’s 56 percent and earned a fabulous 76 percent win on it. Mustering the set further, she saved one out of two breakpoints came across and
capitalised on two out of ten breakpoint opportunities to her advantage to win convincingly.
Next up for the seed is the Russian qualifier Alexandra Artamonova who blasted away British qualifier Nicola George with a breadstick to reach this spot.
Top seeded Estonian Kaia Kanepi will be joining the Israeli in the second round. She crippled Romanian Liana Unger with a bagel to secure this spot.
World number thirty-four and the highest ranked player of the tournament went on a nine games rampage to pull out a straight set victory in seventy-four minutes. She brushed off both breakpoints came across and cashed in four out
of nine breakpoint opportunities to her advantage, sealing the deal with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on their first meeting.
Kanepi will next face German qualifier Dinah Pfizenmaier who crushed Russian qualifier Polina Vinogradova with a bagel to set-up this clash.
