Julia Goerges defeats Yurika Sema in 1st round – Hansol Korea Open 2011
Third seeded Julia Goerges fired qualifier Yurika Sema in the main draw of the Hansol Korea Open 2011 on the hard courts of Olympic Tennis Courts in Seoul, South Korea on the 20th of September 2011. After just fifty four minutes
of play, the third seeded German (Goerges) won in straight sets of a double bread stick victory.
Dictating from the first point Goerges opened the set to 1-0 and both players won on their serves. After that there was no stopping Goerges, as she powered through the remaining set by breaking her opponent twice to see a speedy
victory of 6-1 in just 26 minutes of the game.
Goerges was not broken once during the entire set and was a stronger player. With a strong backhand and forehand cross court play she smashed an ace and bagged more than twice as many points as Sema’s.
Wanting to keep the upper hand, Goerges kept a forceful style by utilizing her forehand swing and her baseline ground play. Eventually the third seeded German won the second set as well. On the other hand, Sema did not learn from
her mistakes committed during the first set and went on to performing similarly in the second set as well.
Opening the second set was Sema and both the players were able to put themselves on the score board. By the end of the third and fourth game Goerges was leading the score with a 3-1; as she was able to break her opponent in the
third game and then went on to holding her serve in the fourth.
She again repeated a similar feat in the fifth and the sixth game but this time in the fifth game Sema had double faulted on her second serve and lost a game. By the seventh game it was Sema’s turn to serve but Goerges was waiting
to break her adversary and by smashing a backhand winner down the line at 40-love, she secured a near flawless victory of 6-1.
Amazingly Goerges was not broken even once during the second set of the match and won all her service points, by achieving twice as many points in the second set and the first, she was able to secure a place in the second round
of the event where she will be facing Greek Eleni Daniilidou.
