Julia Goerges eyeing to rise and shine at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012 – Tennis Special
After showing spectacular skills this circuit, Julia Goerges of Germany is looking forward to reach far at the Sony Ericsson Open 2012, a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier Mandatory event taking place at Key Biscayne in
Miami, Florida.
The gorgeous Georges impressed everyone after displaying her awe-inspiring abilities at the Australian Open, Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships and BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells before entering the Tennis Center at Crandon
Park. The German is seeded 15th at this hard court tournament, ultimately receiving a first round bye.
The 23-year-old made a nervy start of 2012 as she was ousted from early rounds at the ASB Classic and Apia International Sydney. However, she raised the bar of her game at the Grand Slam Down Under, where she cruised into the pre-quarters
before crashing out to the Polish number one, Agnieszka Radwanska with double breadsticks.
Regardless of losing her Fed Cup tie against Petra Kvitova, she swiftly reached the final eight at the Open GDF Suez in Paris (fell to Czech Republic’s Klara Zakopalova). The German then re-gathered her strength at the Dubai WTA
Premier event and blasted past her rivals to reach the final showdown. She overpowered the likes of Svetlana Kuznetsova and the former world number five, Daniela Hantuchova, before setting up a date with the third seed, Caroline Wozniacki, in the last four.
She stunned the defending champion in straight sets and secured a spot in the final round.
Goerges was quoted in a courtside interview after upsetting the Danish number one. "It's nice to be in the final of a premier event and beat these top players," said Goerges. "It was a pretty tough match. We played for more than
two hours for two sets and I don't know how it would have gone in the third set. It wasn't my best match at all but it's important you get through those matches. "
Although she lost to Radwanska again, she high-spiritedly entered the Indian Wells WTA Premier event. The blooming Goerges crushed the British number one, Elena Baltacha, in her opening match. She carried her rhythm in the next
round and outshined the high flying Spaniard, Anabel Medina Garrigues, in straight sets before encountering Victoria Azarenka in the pre-quarters. Despite exiting from the fourth round to the world number one with a breadstick, her game was praised by everyone.
“Lost a tough match today against the no.1 Victoria! Well will take a lot out of it, I still like the tennis I am playing since some weeks,” the German commented in a social networking site after bowing out to the Belarusian number
one.
Ranked 15th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Goerges is looking forward to improve her forehands in order to outgun the top-ten players. She clobbered a lower first serve share against Azarenka and brushed off only two out
of eight breakpoints she came across, which cost her match. The German should play her game but needs to improve her shots on return to advance further at the Miami WTA event.
