Julia Goerges is all set for the Qatar Ladies Open 2012 – Tennis News
German ace, Julia Goerges, is all set to star at the Qatar Ladies Open 2012 this week. She is participating in both singles and doubles event at this WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) Premier event taking place on the outdoor hard courts in Doha, Qatar.
The world number 21 has arrived in Qatar to re-ignite her last year’s spark at the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash Complex. She made a drastic start of 2012 after exiting from the early round in Auckland and Sydney but made a fourth round showing
at the Australian Open (lost to the eighth seed, Agnieszka Radwanska).
Goerges is participating in both events at this hard court tournament. She will face the Belarusian contender, Anastasiya Yakimova, in the opening round on Monday. In the doubles event, she teamed up with the Chinese contestant, Zheng Jie, to duel the wild
card entrants, Oman’s Fatma Al Nabhani and Tunisia’s Ons Jabeur, in the first round.
“Hi everybody, Doha is very nice. A bit windy but at least warmer than in Paris right now😜playing doubles today 3rd after3.30pm with Zheng Jie,” Goerges commented in a social networking site.
The 23-year-old is coming off from a quarter-final showing at the Open GDF SUEZ, a WTA Premier event held in Paris, France. She crippled Israeli number one, Shahar Peer, and Petra Cetkovska with breadsticks before exiting at the hands of Klara Zakopalova.
The gorgeous German is seeded 16th at this event. She needs to watch out the world number one Victoria Azarenka, Danish ace Caroline Wozniacki, US Open titlist Samantha Stosur and her fellow citizen Sabine Lisicki.
Georges is also seventh seeded in the doubles event. She is most likely to square off against the top seeded Americans, Liezel Huber and Lisa Raymond, in the quarter-finals. The high flying Indo-Russian duo of Sania Mirza and Elena Vesnina are also featuring
in this tournament.
The German highlighted the 2011 season by grabbing her second WTA career title at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart (stunned the top seed, Caroline Wozniacki, in the final showdown). She also made semi-final berths at the ASB Classic, Mutua Madrilena
Madrid Open and BGL BNP Paribas Luxembourg Open.
