Julia Goerges needs a twist in fortune – Tennis News
Although the 21st ranked German, Julia Goerges, lost in the third round of the China Open on 3rd October, she still believes that her aggressive play against the ninth ranked Aussie star, Samantha Stosur, was the highlight
of the tournament. She stated, “I knew I had to be aggressive against Sam - if you stay aggressive you will get your chances, but you have to play for it every point. I'm pretty pleased with my performance so far this week and hopefully I can keep it up.”
It has been very tough for the 23-year-old German to beat the top seeds in all formats of the game. However, she has been able to score four triumphs against the Top-10 players and three of them have been against the 28-year-old
Aussie; ousted her in Tokyo 2010 and Stuttgart 2011.
Goerges started the season in an emphatic fashion and cruised up to the 15th rank in the world but the slump in her form and multiple points lost in Stuttgart didn’t help her cause and she was dropped out of the Top-20
players in the world. She has been inconsistent as well; not finding the right rhythm in any tournament. One thing is worth mentioning that she has been unlucky as well. The close losses to the superior ranked players have been the feature of her results this
year. She has been mighty close to the victories yet so far. A twist in luck will definitely help her grow into a mature hitter.
There is no doubt that the powerhouse from Germany is invincible when she gets going. The thunderous forehand and backhand winners are a treat to watch but the number of unforced errors are definitely a major pain for Goerges as
well as her fans.
She fought her way out against the ninth seed French, Marion Bartoli, in the third round of the China Open on Wednesday but the lack of fortune in the second set tie-breaker forced her out of the competition. The margin of error
is very less against the big guns like Bartoli and luck has to play its part as well.
Goerges is currently ranked 21 in the world. She will definitely grow few slots before the end of the season especially considering the poor form of some of the Top-20 ranked players that includes the likes of the former world
number one, Ana Ivanovic. So, it is just a matter of time before the gorgeous German will be ruling the world and thrashing her rivals at her will.
