Julia Goerges rests for AEGON International – Tennis News
Injured Julia Goerges from Germany cancelled her match in her home town to fully recover for the grass court tournament she will play next week.
Ranked 18th in the Sony Ericsson WTA Premier rankings, Goerges is in superb form this season, sporting a ten match winning streak last month. She won the title at Stuttgart after triumphing over world number one Caroline
Wozniacki in straight sets in this winning streak. The streak ended after she lost to Victoria Azarenka in the semi-final at Madrid before confidently entering French Open, second of the four Grand Slam event held in Paris, France.
The German continued to create her magic at the WTA Slam and trashed French Mathilde Johansson and Czech Lucie Safarova in the first two rounds. However, she lost to eleventh seeded French Marion Bartoli in a troublesome three
sets to exit from Paris.
After returning home in Germany, she took part in a local tournament. However, she was forced to withdraw from the event as she still hadn’t fully recovered after being injured in her fourth round match at the 2011 Roland Garros.
Tweeting on Twitter, Goerges said, “...just had to cancel my bundesleague match for ratingen tmrw. i am getting better everyday but still not100%...”
Before she plays on grass next week, the German is part of a mixed doubles exhibition match at Halle Westfalen. She is paired up with Russian Yevgeny Kafelnikov, who has left single matches since 2003, to face veterans, Henri Leconte
and Steffi Graf on this Saturday.
Gorges further tweeted, “And i will fly next week on thursday to eastbourne and i will play there the tournament on grass;).”
The 22-year-old is planning to take part in AEGON International, a grass court tournament which is held in Eastbourne, England and she wants to be perfectly healthy and in great form when she reaches there.
Some of the other great players alongside the German in the tournament are Vera Zvonareva, Victoria Azarenka, Li Na, Francesca Schiavone and Marion Bartoli, who defeated her in her last match.
