Julia Goerges will face off Victoria Azarenka in the final showdown at Generali Ladies Linz – Tennis News
Fifth seed, Julia Goerges from Germany, will lock horns with the world number one, Victoria Azarenka, in the title-round at the Generali Ladies Linz 2012, a WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) International level tournament held in Linz, Austria. The German
beauty bounced over Kirsten Flipkens in three sets while Azarenka crippled the Romanian lucky loser, Irina-Camelia Begu, with a breadstick to set up this date.
The German star made a dismal start at the Intersport Arena and was handed a breadstick in the opening set against the Belgian qualifier. However, she sought her momentum afterwards and never looked back. She broke her rival’s serve twice in the second and
the deciding set, eventually sealing the deal with a 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 score line in one hour and 39 minutes. Goerges produced a better first serve share of 68 per cent and impressively clinched 36 out of 55 points on it. She also took full advantage of six double
faults her opponent committed.
The world number one, Azarenka on the other side halted the Romanian starlet with a breadstick. She lost her serve once but cashed six out of nine break chances to formulate a 6-2, 6-1 victory on one hour and 11 minutes. The Belarusian spilled more double
faults and clobbered a lower first serve share of 65 per cent. However, she superbly availed 20 out of 28 points on it and conquered Begu for the fourth straight time.
Both contestants will battle each other for the fifth time with Azarenka leading the head-to-head series by 3-1 against the German. The Belarusian has conquered Goerges in her last three meeting including the recent with a breadstick at the BNP Paribas Open
in Indian Wells in March.
Azarenka reflected about her match up against the world number 19:
"Julia is a very unpredictable player. She goes for her shots a lot and sometimes what she does doesn't depend on you at all. I've played her a few times and it's never easy. It's definitely going to be a tough battle. Also, I really like Julia as a person.
She's really fun and always very nice. We always talk when we're at tournaments and have a really good relationship. And she always says nice things to me and congratulates me on Twitter."
The Belarusian top ranked star is bidding for her 14th career title and her sixth year-to-date title at this hard court event. She is expected to notch up a 6-4, 6-3 victory against her fellow 23-year-old. However, Azarenka can’t afford much unforced
errors as the German is in awesome run of form.
