Julia Sebastian wins Women’s 200m breaststroke title – Jose Finkel Trophy
Julia Sebastian of UNISANTA won the title of Women’s 200m breaststroke on initial day of the 2012 Jose Finkel Trophy in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday, August 20.
Sebastian, who made her way into the playoff as top contender for gold medal, devastated hopes of her opponents in the distant breaststroke discipline as she continued her supremacy in the final round.
With her epic pace, she remained nearly half body length ahead of her closest swimmer, Renata Paula Sander of FIAT/MINAS and stepped on the finishing end as second position holder by reporting a time of 2 minutes and 28.74 seconds for gold medal.
The champion was followed by Sander, who stayed 0.41 seconds slower from her former finisher and made her way to the podium for silver medal by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 29.15 seconds.
Sander was chased by Tatiane Mayumi Sakemi of ECP/SABESP, who remained 0.97 seconds faster from her foregoing finisher and secured third position of the event by clocking an effort of 2 minutes and 30.18 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Sander’s teammate, Juliana Marangoni Marin, who stayed only 0.26 seconds slower and settled on the finishing blockade with an effort of 2 minutes and 30.44 seconds.
Similarly, Marin was followed by Michelle Sambugari Schmidt of CORINTHIANS/ABDEM, who remained only 0.39 seconds away from her former finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 2 minutes and 30.83 seconds for fifth position.
Sixth finest spot of the race was obtained by Isabela F O Silva of FIAT/MINAS, who suffered a loss of 0.85 seconds from her preceding swimmer and posted a time of 2 minutes and 31.68 seconds.
Silva was followed by Carolina Hurga Mussi of ECP/SABESP, who stayed one and a half body length slower and posted a time of 2 minutes and 33.04 seconds for seventh place.
Eighth position of the event was followed by Schmidt’s team-member Luiza Vieira Costa, who ended her swim in a time of 2 minutes and 37.26 seconds.
Sebastian was overjoyed with her unbeatable form in the race and collected her medal after the session.
