Julia Wilkinson accomplishes Women’s 200m IM gold: Day four - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Julia Wilkinson of IS accomplished gold medal of the Women’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on fourth day of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Friday, March 30.
Wilkinson experienced strong contest from Erica Morningstar of UCSC but with her forceful efforts, she managed to outsmart her on the finishing end for gold medal.
Wilkinson clocked a blistering 2 minutes and 12.78 seconds to prove her eligibility for the crown of the event. Her meticulous effort remained 0.21 seconds ahead of Morningstar, who also confirmed her spot in the Canadian team to the 2012 London Olympic
Games by occupying silver medal of the 200m discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 12.99 seconds.
Morningstar was chased by Alexa Komarnycky of IS, who remained 0.89 seconds slower from the silver medallist and failed to reserve her place in the Canadian team to London. Nevertheless, Komarnycky snared bronze medal of the four-lap event as she tapped
the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 13.88 seconds.
She was followed by Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson of NKB, who was just 0.51 seconds slower from third position holder and clocked an effort of 2 minutes and 14.39 seconds to earn fourth position.
Melanie Dodds of LOSC obtained fifth qualification spot of the race, as she remained almost three seconds slower from her preceding swimmer and posted a time of 2 minutes and 17.48 seconds.
Dodds was followed by Marni Oldershaw of OAK, who stayed 0.05 seconds behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 17.53 seconds for sixth position. Hanna Pierse of VAND remained just 0.42 seconds slower from her former finisher and tapped the wall for seventh
position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 17.95 seconds.
Pierse was trailed by Chelsey Salli of LOSC, who stayed 0.26 seconds away from Pierse and settled on the finishing wall as eighth position holder by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 18.21 seconds.
Wilkinson was overjoyed with her splendid performance in the 200m discipline and elevated hopes of her fans by expressing that she will try to achieve the same at London Games.
