Swimming Canada’s Julia Wilkinson, has expressed that she is aiming high at the upcoming 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, this July.
The Canadian national swimmer was very hopeful of her dominance at the world titles and said that she will make her country proud at the World Championships. Wilkinson said that the World Championships are only two months away and she is preparing hard to
impress the arena at World Aquatics Championships.
She will compete in seven races during the first two days of the championship, realising that she has a tough competitive schedule ahead of her. The Canadian swimmer was happy with her busy schedule and seemed to have no worry of it. Wilkinson said that
she had been managing her busy swimming routine with her social life from the 2010 Commonwealth Games to the 2011 Canadian National Swimming Championships, this March.
Wilkinson is the national record holder of the 50m back-stroke, as she improved the record at the national trials, by clocking world’s second fastest time on the first day of the trials. At that time, her time was second fastest in the 2011 early world rankings,
but now ranks fifth. She confirmed her spot in the Canadian team to Shanghai, by earning the crown of the 100m freestyle on the second day of the event. This was her first victory in the 100m freestyle event.
In addition, the talented Canadian swimmer claimed the title of the 100m back-stroke on the third day of the championships and was the only swimmer to post a sub one minute effort. The Canadian lost her 200m Individual Medley (IM) title to Erica Morningstar
on the fourth day, but settled second and occupied another spot for the Shanghai titles.
Julia said that she will train in Canada until the end of June, to prepare for the upcoming Shanghai Championships. She will be participating in the 100m freestyle, 50m back-stroke, 100m back-stroke, 200m IM and the three relay events.
