Julia Wilkinson dominates Women’s 100m backstroke heats - Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Trials
Julia Wilkinson of IS dominated the qualification rounds of Women’s 100m backstroke on day two of the Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Trials in Montreal on Wednesday, March 28.
The 24-year-old Wilkinson gave no chance to her competitors to retaliate and went full throttle in the double lap backstroke discipline. With her impressive pace and utter determination, she enjoyed an advantage of almost full body length over her closest
challenger.
Wilkinson proved her mettle for the finest spot of the race by ending her swim in a wonderful time of 1 minute and 00.48 seconds. She was followed by Sinead Russell of BWSC, who stayed almost one second slower from her over the finishing end and clinched
second best position of the discipline by ending her swim in a time of 1 minute and 01.42 seconds.
Similarly, Dominique Bouchard of NBYT remained only 0.14 seconds slower from her former finisher and emerged on the finishing blockade by touching the wall with the timing of 1 minute and 01.56 seconds.
Hilary Caldwell of PSW transpired on the finishing end as fourth best finisher of the event as she remained 0.18 seconds behind and completed her swim in a time of 1 minute and 01.74 seconds for fourth position.
Caldwell’s gruelling effort was chased by Gabrielle Soucisse of PPO, who acquired fifth qualifying position of the discipline by concluding her race with the timing of 1 minute and 02.23 seconds. Soucisse was followed by Brooklynn Snodgrass of CASC, who
earned her way into the final round as sixth position holder by producing a time of 1 minute and 02.25 seconds.
Genevieve Cantin of UL secured seventh best finishing spot of the event as she was just one stroke away from her preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 1 minute and 02.33 seconds. She was chased by Katelyn Murdoch of UCSC, who was 0.13 seconds behind Cantin
on the finishing blockade and reported 1 minute and 02.46 seconds for eighth position.
Wilkinson was contented with her tremendous effort in the first round and expressed that she will try to do the same in the playoff.
