Julia Wilkinson earns Women’s 100m backstroke gold – 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational

Julia Wilkinson of Canada earned gold medal of the Women’s 100m backstroke at the 2012 Southwest Classic Invitational in Tucson, Arizona on Saturday, May 5.
The 24-year-old Wilkinson remained considerably ahead of her challengers from the start of the race and reached the finishing wall for first position. With her epic performance, she shattered hopes of her challengers by winning gold medal of the event.
Wilkinson continued her nerve-wracking form throughout the event as she occupied the title of the event with the timing of 1 minute and 02.54 seconds.
She enjoyed a lead of almost two body lengths over Sarah A Denninghoff of Arizona-AZ, who stayed almost 2.50 seconds slower and tapped the wall for second position by clocking a time of 1 minute and 05.17 seconds.
The second position holder was trailed by Maggie J Meyer of Ford Aquatics-AZ, who was just 0.02 seconds behind and clocked a time of 1 minute and 05.19 seconds for bronze medal.
Fourth position of the race was obtained by Denninghoff’s team-member, Lauren H Smart, who remained 0.28 seconds slower and ended her swim in a time of 1 minute and 05.47 seconds.
With her wonderful efforts, Smart remained almost half a second faster from Chloe D Isleta of Santa Clara-PC, who proved her eligibility for fifth position of the discipline by clocking a time of 1 minute and 06.02 seconds.
The fifth position holder was followed by Shannon N Landgrebe of ASU-AZ, who stayed 1.04 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 07.06 seconds.
She was followed by Emma K Darlington of Arizona-AZ, who remained 0.57 seconds slower and submitted a time of 1 minute and 07.63 seconds for seventh position.
Finally, the audience experienced notable efforts of Whitney M Burnett of UFORD-AZ and Kallie J Golden of ASU-AZ, who ended their sprints in eighth best place with an identical timing of 1 minute and 08.00 seconds.
In addition, the championship ended after the completion of all listed events while the position holders were rewarded medals for their remarkable efforts after the session.
