Julian Dean signs one year contract with Pro Tour team GreenEDGE 2011 - Cycling News
The supporting director Andrew Ryan of GreenEDGE has further extended his team as the New Zealand cyclist Julian Dean has confirmed that he will join the new Australian Pro Tour team GreenEDGE for the 2012 season.
Dean has been with Garmin-Cervelo for the past four years and finished up with them at the end of this season. In November, he will link up with GreenEDGE in training camp and the first Tour Down Under is expected to be held in January. The former New Zealand
road Champion was really excited for the development in cycling, especially in Australia and New Zealand.
He was pleased to join the team and said, "At this stage I am just looking one year at a time, and there are no specific plans to race in 2013. But you never say 'never'. I think I have something still to offer and believe over the last two to three years
especially, I have raced at my best."
GreenEDGE became the first Australian team to obtain a UCI World Tour licence and participated in the grand tours as, Tour Down Under, Giro d'Italia and Tour de France. The team already signed various talented Australian riders including, Matt Goss, Simon
Gerrans, Cameron Meyer, Robbie McEwen and Stuart O'Grady.
Dean further added, "I think I have something still to offer and believe, over the last two to three years especially, I've raced at my best.''
Julian started his career in 1993 and took third place in World U-19 Team Pursuit Championships. He won the National Road Race Championships in 2008. In the 2011 season, he grabbed ninth place in the third stage of Ster ZLM tour and first time trial stage
of Tour de France.
Dean commented that he will be focusing on his next season, adding that his first objective is to improve his riding in the Tour de France and then Olympic Game 2012. It will be interesting to see what impact Julian will have on team GreenEDGE and how well
he adapts to his new squad.
