Julian Reister and Andreas Beck reach second round at the 2011 Rai Open
Number five seed Julian Reister of Germany defeated Victor Crivoi of Romania 6-3, 7-6 to book his place in the second round of 2011 Rai Open in Italy.
Reister has been in terrific form over the past few weeks. Although he gave very average results at the ATP tour tournaments he has participated in, he managed to restore some of the lost pride by lifting his first ATP Challengers
title of the season at Monza Challenger in Italy. With his title win, Reister also reached his career high ATP ranking of world number 100. The German certainly looked in impressive touch in his opening match at the red clay courts tournament as he required
only 1 hour and 50 minutes dispatching his opponent.
Reister started off in fine fashion as he secured his first serve game comfortably. The German had a chance of breaking the serve when the game score was tied 2-2. Reister held on to his serve games to take the opening set 6-3.
Crivoi fought back brilliantly in the following set. After both players exchanged break, the set went into a tie-breaker. Crivoi had two set points in the tie-breaker however he failed to convert them. Reister made the most of
his opponent’s inability to win easy points and clinched four straight points in the tie-breaker to seal the match in straight sets.
The Romanian tennis-pro, Crivoi struggled to time the tennis ball and leaked crucial points in the process. He was quite ordinary in the opening set as he committed a large number of unforced errors. In the second set the Romanian
displayed better tennis and forced the set into a tiebreaker.
Meanwhile, Andreas Beck came back from a set deficit 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 against Antonio Veic of Croatia to advance to the next round at the Challengers tournament. The German who is seeded fourth at the tournament showed great fighting
spirit and determination to come back from behind in his opening match on Tuesday.
Crivoi on the other hand struggled to time the tennis ball and leaked crucial points in the process. He was quite ordinary in the opening set as he committed a large number of unforced errors. In the second set the Romanian displayed
better tennis and forced the set into a tiebreaker.
Beck looked down and out as the first set started. He made some critical mistakes which allowed his opponent to establish firm control over the contest. The 23 year old Veic broke the serve in the fourth game of the set and then
claimed all the games on his own serve to lead the set score 1-0.
In the second set, Beck bounced back brilliantly with a double serve break. The German served with extreme accuracy to put his opponent under pressure. He held on to his serve game at 5-4, serving for the set. The 25-year-old
converted one of the set points to force the match into the decider.
He then capitalized on the psychological advantage in the final set and made the crucial serve break to seal the match with a strong forehand winner.
