Julian Reister humbles Cervenak Cervenak to reach quarterfinals at the 2011 Rai Open
Julian Reister of Germany defeated Slovakian Pavol Cervenak in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 on Thursday to book a quarterfinal spot at the 2011 Rai Open in Rome, Italy.
The first set lasted for only thirty five minutes as Reister looked on top of his game. The German tennis-pro made the most of the opportunities presented to him and soon found himself leading the game score by 3-1. He then made
a serve break in seventh game to earn an impassable 5-2 lead in the set. Reister took the opener after clinching his next serve game comfortably.
Cervenak raised the level of his game and displayed better tennis in the following set. He made the first serve break in the set with a brilliant backhand winner. However the excellence of Reister ensured him a straight set victory
in less than an hour and a half. The German broke the serve twice to turn things around for him after he was trailing at 4-2 in the set. He stuck to his strengths and forced his opponent to make mistakes.
The Slovak made good moves but couldn’t convert the chances that came his way. The Slovakian managed to win only 4 out 8 break points which proved a vital role in deciding the outcome of the game. At times Cervenak over hit his
backhand shots to gift points to his opponent. The 23 year old certainly struggled to find his form on the red clay courts in Rome.
Seeded 5th at the tournament, Reister served with extreme accuracy and made the challenger run for his money with his aggressive intent. He showed great mental strength as he converted four out five break points in the
match. He was also the more successful of the two players in the serve return department claiming 40 per cent of the points on return.
Year 2011 has turned out to be a decent one for Reister. Although he had a forgettable time on the ATP tour, he achieved significant results at the ITF circuit and Challenger series. The 25-year-old reached his career high ATP
ranking of world number 100 after lifting his first Challengers title of the year at Monza just over a week ago. Reister has certainly carried over the winning momentum into this tournament as well as he outclassed his opponent in almost all aspects of the
game.
In his previous match at the Rome Challengers, Reister crushed Romanian Victor Crivoi in straight sets. His quarterfinal opponent will be compatriot Andreas Beck who eased past Italian Thomas Fabbiano 6-2, 6-1.
