Juliana and Larissa win the Brazilian Circuit of Beach Volleyball in Salvador
The outstanding Brazilian duo of Juliana Felisberta Silva and Larissa Franca always stay on the top and prove their dominance in the whole beach volleyball scene. Once again, they did the same at Salvador stage of Brazilian Circuit of beach volleyball. The
final stage of the women’s tournament brought Juliana/Larissa and Talita/Maria Elisa in the court on Sunday, 24th October, 2010. The match venue in Salvador, Bahia was rocked with the mesmerizing performance of top-guns of beach volleyball.
Juliana/Larissa proved to be too good for Talita/Maria and won the 9th stage of the tournament in straight sets. With the help of this particular victory, Juliana/Larissa have repeated the same act of winning 16 gold medal, like they did in 2006.
The dynamic duo has a 30-game winning streak in the 2010 season, which is a great accomplishment.
Juliana/Larissa vs. Talita/Maria 2-0 (18-12 and 18-8)
The top-seeded pair of Juliana and Larissa opened the gold-medal match on the right foot. They produced good jump-serves and formulized a killing plan for their compatriots. Juliana took a long run to serve the ball, while Larissa was very active over the
net. The two players quickly traded their places and jumped on every ball coming from the opponents’ side with lightning speed. The first run of the game graced Juliana/Larissa and provided them a competitive edge in the first set.
On the other side of the net, Maria and Talita were in good form. They backed up each other and tried to save points by dismissing Juliana/Larissa’s attack attempts. They formed good timing and grabbed the ball by nice digging and diving. However, Juliana
and Larissa continued with their effort and added more points in the score. Despite of good defence from Maria/Talita, they found rare gaps in the court and directed their spikes in the targeted areas.
The first-set game progressed with a narrow gap of point until the second technical timeout and suddenly Juliana/Larissa started hard-hitting. Maria had a hard time to run in the corners and dive for the ball. Juliana/Larissa used the 2 points’ lead and
scored consecutive points. They widened the difference of points and pulled off victory by hitting 18-12 on the scoreboard.
The loss of first set put Maria and Talita under a cloud of uncertainty. Juliana/Larissa enjoyed the opening-set victory and seemed determined to take full hold of the game in second set. The direction was set for them and they had very much grasped the
game-plan and weak areas of rival side.
The second set started out really good for Juliana/Larissa as they easily built a lead and hindered opponents’ performance. Maria/Talita couldn’t recover from the shock of defeat in first set and suffered the more damage. They committed too many unforced
ball-reception errors as they played under pressure. Juliana/Larissa launched their authority and hit more powerful shots. The second set was even worse on Maria/Talita’s part. They totally lost the grip on game and couldn’t resist to the rising score of Juliana/Larissa.
It was most likely a mental game but strong pair of Juliana and Larissa also had luck on their side. It seemed as if the ball just needed a touch of their hands and it promptly landed in the perfect space to score points for them.
The overwhelming performance of Juliana/Larissa enabled them to quickly cover the length of second set and put an end to the gold-medal match. Maria and Talita looked at each other’s faces suspiciously but couldn’t blame anyone as duo of Juliana/Larissa
was somewhat tough nut to crack. Finally Juliana/Larissa hit the winning shot and claimed second set in a row (18-8). Juliana/Larissa settled for the gold-medal victory at Brazilian Circuit of Beach Volleyball in Salvador.
