Juliane Schenk comes out invincible in Singapore Open 2012 – Badminton News
World Number six female shuttler Juliane Schenk finally managed to claim first individual title of ongoing season by landing on the podium in Li Ning Singapore Open 2012.
The Women’s Singles expert of Germany stamped world beaters like Sung Ji Hyun, Cheng Shao Chieh and Porntip Buranaprasertsuk along with talented shuttlers Chen Xiao Jia and Salakjit Ponsana in this successful journey.
Earlier, Juliane reached in title matches of India Open, European Championships and German Open GP Gold this year but she could not lock the honour in these tournaments.
However, she ended this long streak of failures last week in Singapore by clinching top spot on the victory stand.
The 29-year-old shuttler alarmed all the contestants by registering a straight-set victory against Thai girl Salakjit Ponsana in opening round of the event.
She enthralled her challenger with amazing badminton skills and the impressive figure of 21-15 and 21-15 was proof of her supremacy.
This first round win put her against talented but inexperienced Chinese campaigner Xiao Jia in pre quarter-finals.
Though, Juliane had to face strong resistance from a lower ranked opponent but she cleared this hurdle by employing all her brilliance and experience in the game.
This tussle prolonged to three exhausting sets and the German player raised her hands as victor by registering a concluding margin of 21-12, 10-21 and 21-16.
The Thai quarter-finalist Porntip Buranaprasertsuk was next contender to fall prey to this thunderous campaign.
However, it was not a smooth road to victory for the shuttler as spirited Porntip pushed her all the way to three gruelling sets.
Juliane, who was ranked second in this Super Series tournament, displayed fluctuated performance in this contest but that did not harm her much.
She laid a foundation for victory by grabbing the first set with a huge lead in 21-12 score. She lost rhythm in following game which resulted in a 9-21 total but third set saw her clinching semi-final spot with 21-19 margin.
The second last round of the event proved the toughest one for her as she was up against World Number eight player Sung Ji Hyun.
The Korean lady strived hard to match the skills of her superior rival but she could rise only in second set of match.
This hard fought battle got concluded with 21-11, 20-22 and 21-12 and Juliane secured a berth in title match of the tournament.
Now she was just one step away from top position with Taipei girl Shao Chieh standing in her way to glory.
It was her fourth title match in this season and she was desperately looking to bag the crown this time. She did not squander her efforts and registered a splendid 2-0 win with 21-11 and 26-24 score on the board.
This Singapore Open title will really boost her confidence to get through mega challenge of 2012 London Olympics.
