Juliane Schenk enthralls Jiang Yanjiao to gain access to final round of 2012 Yonex Denmark Open
Women’s Singles shuttler Juliane Schenk stretched her successful run in the Yonex Denmark Open and stayed invincible in the semi-final round on Saturday, October 20, 2012.
The German campaigner intercepted Jiang Yanjiao en route to the grand finale and alarmed her next challenger Saina Nehwal by performing exceptionally well in this 61-minute tussle.
She locked the honour by registering an impressive result of 13-21, 21-14 and 21-15 after three grueling sets.
Though, Juliane had a horrendous start as she lost first match point with a huge difference but she managed to counter-balance the situation with a gutsy knock in the following games.
On the other hand, the Chinese shuttler frittered away a golden chance of a straight-set victory and crashed out of this Premier Super Series.
Jiang Yanjiao, who was placed at eighth spot in the tournament ranking, started her campaign with great confidence and gained an early advantage with 5-3 total. She did not lose this rhythm and placed an indomitable figure of 11 before the interval.
Later part of the game was also dominated by Jiang as she showed consistency in her performance and finished the opening game with a significant margin of 21-13.
However, she could not go with the same flow in the next games and her below par performance ultimately resulted in her defeat.
Meanwhile, Juliane Schenk showed elevated craft and managed to stay alive in the contest. She made her intentions clear by gathering four consecutive points in the beginning and then capitalised this lead to pile up a mountainous total of 11.
The German campaigner played with similar precision in later part of the game and doubled her lead with 15-9. She did not lose focus in the final moments and setup a nerve-racking decider by registering 21-14 score on the board.
This development made third set consequential as both contenders were locked in a survival of the fittest war.
They challenged each other in all areas of the game and remained equal until 8-8 but then Juliane Schenk made a notable difference with a couple of successive points.
She raised her lead to six points and swept the table with a convincing margin of 21-15.
