Juliane Schenk grab Women’s Singles crown to end her prolonged title draught in a Super Series event
Germany’s spirited shuttler Juliane Schenk showed her class and finally ended her prolonged title draft as she has grabbed her first Women’s Singles crown at the Singapore Open Super Series 2012, on Sunday, June 24, in Singapore.
In the title match, the World Number 6 Schenk overpowered Chinese Taipei’s Cheng Shao Chieh who is currently placed at number 13 in the world.
By winning the final contest against the Taipei shuttlers, the German won her first ever Super Series title which made her emotional in the court as burst into tears after bagging the last point. She ended up the final battle in straight games.
On the other hand, Shao Chieh could not extend her winning run against the fireworks of her German rival. She lost the first set easily but worked really well in the second game and remained unlucky in the ending points and eventually lost the match to Schenk
in 52 minutes.
In the opener, Schenk controlled the pace of rallies by playing aggressive and positive badminton and set up a wonderful lead of 11-7 until the break.
After the interval, the second seeded German lady continued her roller-coaster performance without showing any mercy to her gritty opponent and won the set with a one-sided 21-11 score on the board.
However, the story was completely different in the second game when Shao Chieh read the game of German quite well and remained toe-to-toe on the score board until the one-minute interval.
It was a physically gruelling contest between both ladies and the fast exchange of prolonged rallies made the fight very tough. Both shuttlers remained close all the way and reached at 15-15.
At this stage, Shao Chieh showed her brilliance as she played incredible shots in all corners of the court and reached at 20-17.
However, Schenk did not give up and proved her class by making the score levelled at 20-20.
Both ladies progressed closely and reached at 24-24 when Schenk played at her best and managed to win the set with a 26-24 score on the board.
The higher ranked Schenk won the Women’s Singles crown after beating Shao Chieh in the title match with a margin of 21-11 and 26-24.
