Juliane Schenk narrowly beats Yao Jie to bag Women’s Singles title at Bitburger Open GP Gold 2012
Germany’s ace shuttler Juliane Schenk cheered her home fans by winning the Women’s Singles title after beating her lower ranked rival Yao Jie of Netherlands in a nail-biting final contest at the Bitburger Open GP Gold 2012 in Germany, on Sunday, November
4.
The higher ranked Schenk, who was top seed in Bitburger Open, had to work to her maximum potential and remained successful in winning this breath-taking battle in 58 minutes.
Schenk was in tremendous form in the opening set but failed to maintain her upper hand over her rival and lost the second game. However, she remained lucky in the final set and won it with a tight margin.
On the other hand, the World Number 22 and second seeded Jie played spectacular badminton and she troubled her higher ranked German rival all the way until the ending points of final set when she remained unlucky and lost the battle with a narrow difference.
In the first game, the lofty Schenk showed a phenomenal performance by playing with commanding control in her shots and stayed miles ahead until the one-minute break.
After the interval, the Germany lady continued showing up her aggression on court and she did not take much time in finishing off the set with a stunning 21-10 score on the board.
In the following set, Schenk failed to put up strong show this time as her Dutch rival also played with aggression and precision this time. The score remained close on the board in the opening half.
After the break, Schenk tried her level best to stop the progress of her opponent but failed and lost the game with a huge deficit of 15-21.
In the final set, both ladies played to their maximum potential and stayed close until the end of opening half.
They continued playing attacking and positive badminton throughout the concluding half of final set and reached at the breath taking stage of 23-23.
At this crucial stage, Schenk showed her brilliance and grabbed ending points to win the game with a 25-23 score on the board.
The local shuttler made her home fans happy by winning this nerve-wrecking final battle in three games with a dramatic margin of 21-10, 15-21 and 25-23.
