Juliane Schenk overwhelms Chen Xiao to surge into quarter-finals of Singapore Open 2012
Women’s Singles campaigner Juliane Schenk of Germany continued her successful run in Li Ning Singapore Open and powered her way to quarter-finals on Thursday, June 21, 2012.
World Number six shuttler proved her supremacy over Chen Xiao Jia of China and locked the honour by registering final figures of 12-21, 21-10 and 16-21.
However, it was not an effortless win as she had to face strong resistance from lower ranked opponent who stood firm for 65 minutes.
The German girl made her intentions clear in opening game of the match when she wrapped this segment with a notable difference of nine points.
Juliane pushed her challenger on the back-foot by dominating first six rallies which took her to an authoritative position of 6-0.
She kept dictating the opponent all the way to mid-game break and placed a respectable total of 11-5 in the first half.
Later part of the game started with Juliane making swift progress and reaching 16-8 in no time. She carried this rhythm until game point situation and bagged first set with a favourable margin of 21-12.
Next game completely changed the scenario as the Chinese campaigner registered her presence in a commendable manner.
World Number 25 shuttler Chen Xiao was everywhere in court and she outclassed her competitor in every area of the game.
Though, she was bit under pressure after first set loss but six uninterrupted points helped her to come out of this phase.
She ended opening part of the set with a distinctive edge in 11-5 margin and entered in second half with great confidence.
Later part of the game brought cheerfulness for her as she gathered ten out of last fifteen points and levelled match score with a staggering figure of 21-10.
However, this celebration was short lived as the German lady’s magic prevailed in the decider and she sealed a splendid 2-1 victory.
Juliane Schenk set the foundation by winning first half with 11-7 and then capitalised this initial advantage to read final result of 21-16.
This win took her into round of eight where she will face Porntip Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand.
