Juliane Schenk overwhelms Sung Ji Hyun in Women’s Singles semi-final of Singapore Open
Germany’s top shuttler Juliane Schenk delivered a phenomenal performance and powered her way into Women’s Singles title match after beating Korea’s Sung Ji Hyun in semi-final battle at the Singapore Open Super Series 2012 in Singapore, on Saturday, June
23.
The in-form Schenk, who is number two seed in Women’s Singles draw of the tournament, worked at her best in the court and managed to chuck out her talented Korean rival in a tremendous fight.
The World Number 6 Schenk showed her class as she grabbed the first set easily but lost the second game to her Korean rival with a tight margin. However, the German showed her incredible temperament in the final set and won the battle in rubber games.
The third seeded Ji Hyun, who is World Number 8 at the moment, failed to play her normal game in the opening set but managed to level the score by grabbing the following game with tight score. However, she could not stop the aggression and power play of
her rival in the deciding game and lost the match.
In the first game, it was the higher ranked German who was in full swing as she did not face any considerable resistance and sailed smoothly in the court.
Schenk was incredible in her shot selection and managed to win the opening set in a sensational fashion with a stunning difference of 21-11.
In the second game, Ji Hyun changed her strategy and also executed powerful stroke and Schenk could not do much about this counter attack.
Both ladies played at their best and reached at the ending points of second set when Schenk lost her focus and lost the game with a tight score of 20-22.
In the decider, the higher ranked Schenk controlled the pace of rallies from the starting points and maintained her elite run throughout the fight. She remained ahead of Ji Hyun in the whole set and won it easily with a superb margin of 21-12.
Schenk overpowered Ji Hyun in a mouth-watering rubber-set semi-final encounter with a superb 21-11, 20-22 and 21-12 score on the board.
