Juliane Schenk spoils smooth run of Jiang Yanjiao in round-of-16 of the 2011 World Championships
Germany’s Women’s Singles ace shuttler, Juliane Schenk, proved her elite skills as she defeated the higher ranked, Jiang Yanjiao of China, in their round-of-16 clash of the 2011 World Championships, at the Wembley Indoor Arena in London, on Thursday, August
11.
Schenk, who is currently ranked at Number Ten in the Women’s Singles world rankings, played to her maximum potential against the World Number Four, Yanjiao, who failed to break the flow of her opponent and lost the match in three-sets.
The 28-year-old Schenk opened her journey against the Chinese shuttler in an impressive way, as she played fast badminton and spared no room for her challenger to place strokes. Her aggressive approach in the match earned her a considerable advantage and
she won the first game with the margin of 21-14.
However, Yanjiao made a stunning comeback in the second set as she played attacking badminton. Her perfect stroke placement and fast speed disturbed the flow of her rival and she clinched the second set with a dramatic score of 21-7.
Stung by the loss of the second game, Schenk played planned badminton in the final set as she remained quick at the net to keep her rival away from executing net strokes. Her changed strategy disturbed the momentum of her opponent and she grabbed the final
game with the 21-14 score on the board.
After winning the match against the higher ranked Chinese shuttler, Schenk said, “I was totally enjoying myself, playing hard and enjoying the great atmosphere. It's a great performance for me for beating one of the top Chinese player. I was well prepared
and I tried my very best today.”
She further added, “I have big self confidence. No matter losing or winning while against a Chinese player,I can feel I'm at the same level with them. The fighting spirit helped me to win today. I was quite ready for all I can do. I got positive feeling
on the court.”
In the Women’s Singles quarter-final, Schenk will take on Denmark’s Tine Baun, who worked extra hard to win her round-of-16 battle against Sung Ji Hyun of Korea.
