Juliane Schenk stuns Wang Xin in Women’s Singles semi-final of German Open Grand Prix Gold
Germany’s top shuttler Juliane Schenk delivered a sensational performance when she thrashed the top seed Wang Xin of China in Women’s Singles semi-final of German Open Grand Prix Gold 2012 in Germany, on Saturday, March 3.
The third seed Schenk, who is currently World Number Eight, showed her supremacy in the arena by playing to her maximum potential and made the biggest upset of the tournament as she ousted the World Number Two and top seed Xin in straight games.
Xin was the favourite to win the match against Schenk but she could not produce impressive performance and lost the contest without taking even a single set.
Schenk started her campaign in an impressive fashion as she took over the control of rallies and established an early lead. She was quite focused and played with precision against her higher ranked rival.
On the other hand, Xin could not live up to expectations as she remained a little sluggish from the opening points and remained trailing behind her lower ranked local rival.
The German lady, who was having the support of her home fans proved her elevated skills and remained ahead of her rival at 11-7 until the interval.
After the break, Schenk continued entertaining the local crowd with her impressive play as she did not commit any mistake and also did not spare any room for her higher ranked opponent to level the score.
Schenk remained successful in taking the first set with a remarkable 21-14 score on the board.
In the second game, both ladies showed their wonderful skills and the score remained equal until 7-7 when Schenk started to put up elevated show by playing positive badminton.
Until the break in the first set, Schenk was in complete control of the game as she managed a three-point advantage by reaching at 11-7.
After the interval, Xin tried her best to break the flow of her opponent by playing fast badminton but failed to produce good results.
She committed a few unforced errors in the concluding part of second game and remained behind on the score board.
On the other hand, Schenk did not lose her focus and managed to win the set with a tremendous score of 21-16.
Schenk won this Women’s Singles semi-final battle in straight games with a comprehensive margin of 21-14 and 21-16.
