Juliane Schenk stuns Xuerui Li in Women’s Singles quarter-final at Yonex Denmark Open
Germany’s impressive player Juliane Schenk delivered a phenomenal performance in the Women’s Singles quarter-final clash when she toppled the ruling Olympic Champion Li Xuerui at the Yonex Denmark Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Friday, October 19, in
Denmark.
The sixth seeded Juliane, who has been positioned at number seven in Women’s Singles world ranking, played with aggression and speed which helped her to maintain pressure on the second seeded Xuerui and she won the battle in a staggering fashion in 40 minutes.
German shuttler was in tremendous form on court as she did not show any sign on confusion throughout the match and easily showed exit to her higher ranked Chinese opponent in straight games with a huge margin.
In the meanwhile, the World Number Two Xuerui tried her best to prove her supremacy on court but she failed to put up strong show and remained unable to match the perfection of her German rival. She lost the battle in a humiliating way without taking even
a single set.
In the first game, both shuttlers played with precision but it was Juliane who started to create the gap on score board by controlling the pace of rallies and managed to set up a reasonable lead of 11-6 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, Juliane remained on track as she played with confidence and troubled her higher ranked Chinese opponent by employing her hard-to-learn skills and remained successful in winning the set with a tight margin of 21-19.
In the second game, the lower ranked German shuttler was on a different level as she played with variations and kept her rival guessing where the bird was going to land.
Until the end of opening half in second game, Juliane was leading the score board with an impressive 11-7 margin on the board.
In the concluding half, Juliane did not let Xuerui to control the pace of rallies at any stage as she played attacking badminton and managed to end up the contest with a 21-12 score on the board.
Juliane emerged as the winner in this Women’s Singles battle in straight games with a stunning 21-19 and 21-12.
